My X Files Fanfic

I wrote this a fair while ago, for one of my friends on an X Files forum, and I just remembered about it yesterday, so I figured I should post it for her now. The idea behind this was that I'd write a short fic for her based on a word that rhymed with her name. So, Bruna - here's your fic, it's called Lunar!

Title Lunar.
Rating G.
Summary Mulder drags Scully out to go see the lunar eclipse. Again.
Word Count 412.

“Come on Scully, hurry up! We’re going to miss it!”

“We aren’t going to miss it, Mulder.”

“But we’re going to miss some of it! I don’t want to miss any of it!”

Scully gave a half-amused, half-bemused sigh, but offered her hand to Mulder nonetheless. He took it and began to lead her quickly through the thick, wild forest they were traversing.

“I don’t know why you’re in such a rush, Mulder.”

Mulder looked at her bewilderedly as though she was talking another language, then replied very slowly (as though to make sure she could fully understand him) “because it’s a lunar eclipse, Scully! They only occur twice a year!”

“I know they only occur twice a year. Do you know how I know they only occur twice a year?” She carried on before he could give her an answer, “because you drag me out here, without fail, twice a year to see the eclipse.” She looked around her and frowned slightly. “I don’t know why we have to come out here, anyway. We can see the eclipse perfectly well from your apartment.”

“Why would I want to see such a beautiful and amazing phenomena through a window? It’s much better to see it out here. It’s more… romantic.”

Scully’s frown dissolved instantly at these words, and she smiled. The trees around them were thinning now, and up ahead she could see the night’s sky.

“It just surprises me that even after 7 years of doing this, you’re still amazed by what is ultimately one big rock passing through the shadow of another bigger rock.”

Mulder chuckled. “Always the scientist, huh, Scully?”

They reached the edge of the trees, and sat down together in the middle of a grassy, overgrown field. It was a picturesque summer night, the sky clear and illuminated by hundreds of twinkling stars, with one big, silver orb hanging in the middle of them all, partially obstructed from view by a large shadow.

“I suppose we’re going to have to sit out here all night to watch the different stages?” she sighed, whilst taking his hand again and nestling in closer to him.

“Of course we are,” he replied, placing his free arm around her shoulders and drawing her closer still, “that’s not a problem, is it?”

She looked up at the stunning navy night sky. He was right, she thought; it was beautiful.

But she wasn’t going to let him know that she agreed with him.
